Take Your Time Back
What’s a good way to engage customers in an entertaining way,
while sharing 40 product features and integrations? It might be a card game.
Context
Atlassian announced a new collection of products, meant to be spoken to as a single package, with a whole lot of features.
Together with Product Designer Jade, I built and designed an interactive card game which allowed us to share a lot of product features and integrations, while engaging customers in a fun and entertaining game.

Process
I started this project with a lot of research, identifying all the product features and integrations that we want to highlight. I experimented with a variety of games that would allow a customer to be exposed to all the facts, in the process of doing a more light hearted activity.
When I eventually landed on the card game, I started to sketch and map out the elements and components of the game. When the game mechanics were in place, I reached out to Jade to work with me on the visual design of the game, bringing in lots elements of the products.
Chro-Noah
It was Jade who first experiments with the introduction of a mascot, and it was a delightful addition to the game. I love how the more comic representation of the mascot helps to balance the topic of spending all day in meetings, which is the scoring counter for the game.
Why design a game
With the long list of product features and integrations we want to communicate, a quick and digestable way to engage the attendees would be the most effective way to spark their interest.
Through the game we were able to surface up to 40 features per game (based on 1 round of game play with 4 players all drawing feature cards). Whether the customer was more interested in playing a game or learning about the product collection, the game allowed them to voluntarily engage with Atlassian staff members who could further speak to their needs.
Gamification has been proven in studies to be a fun and effective tool to increase engagement and stimulate message retention, it also taps into our competitive nature and encourages individuals to compete with one another.

The card game has been a successful addition to our events, and has been featured at Config 2025 and WeAreDevelopers World Congress 2025. With each event and audience, the card game can be and has been tailored to represent specific integrations or just surface more relevant use cases.
